Liverpool consider shock move for West Brom defender

Liverpool and Leicester are weighing up a January move for West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi, reports ESPN.

West Brom signed Hegazi on loan from Egyptian side Al Ahly over the summer and the 26-year-old has been something of a revelation for the Baggies.

The Egypt international has started every one of West Brom’s opening 14 league matches this season and is already attracting interest from some of the bigger English sides.

Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip’s inability to stay fit for prolonged periods will almost certainly force Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to re-assess his defensive options and the Reds are keeping a close eye on Hegazi.

However, West Brom are expected to trigger their €5m (£4.4m) option to make Hegazi’s stay permanent, which could prove the major stumbling block in Liverpool’s pursuit.

No defender has won the WhoScored Man of the Match award more times in the Premier League this season than Hegazi (2), while only three players have made more clearances than the West Brom defender (100).
