Schalke have announced they will be without Breel Embolo for at least four to six months after undergoing surgery on a broken ankle.
Embolo, 19, joined Schalke for a club-record £19m in the summer and is regarded as one of the most exciting teenagers in Europe.
However, the Switzerland international will now miss the majority of the season with bone and ligament damage after a foul by Augsburg defender Konstantinos Stafylidis during their 1-1 draw on Saturday.
“We will give Breel every support so he can come back strongly from this serious injury and return to where he was before he was forced to stop,” Schalke’s sporting director Christian Heidel is quoted as saying by ABC News.
Embolo is the top goalscoring teenager in the Bundesliga this season (2).
