Paris Saint-Germain rekindle interest in Premier League defender

Paris Saint-Germain have rekindled their interest in Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Tottenham triggered a 12-month extension in Alderweireld’s contract last month to prolong his stay at the club until the summer of 2020.

However, in doing so they have also activated a £25m release clause for next summer until the final two weeks of the transfer window.

Alderweireld is widely expected to leave Tottenham at the end of the season and PSG are back in the running for his signature.

Manchester United wanted the Belgium international last summer but refused to match Tottenham’s stunning £75m valuation.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are still interested in the 29-year-old but want to sign an experienced centre-back this month.

Alderweireld is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and he would strengthen any side in Europe.

The Belgian averages more long balls per game than any other outfielder in the Premier League this season (7.7).
