Antonio Conte keen on Manchester United job

Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is keen to return to the Premier League and succeed Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, claims The Daily Telegraph.

United are on the market for a new long-term manager after sacking Mourinho on Tuesday and replacing him with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer less than 24 hours later on an interim basis until the end of the season.

The Red Devils will spend the next six months re-structuring the club and focusing on making the correct long-term appointment in the summer after failing with David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Mourinho in the last five years.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is United’s first-choice target but the Argentina only signed a new five-year deal in May and would cost in excess of £30m to prise away from their rivals.

Conte, meanwhile, has been out of work since being sacked as Chelsea manager at the end of last season following two whirlwind years at the club, in which he also came to blows with Mourinho when Chelsea faced United.

The Italian succeeded Mourinho at Stamford Bridge after Euro 2016 and is now keen to replace the Portuguese at United.

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is also in the frame but Conte wants to throw his hat in the ring to succeed Mourinho.

Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title during his first season before winning the FA Cup in his final game in charge of the club.

The 49-year-old upstaged both Pep Guardiola and Mourinho in the 2016/17 campaign but things fell apart in his second season where Chelsea finished 30 points behind winners Manchester City.

Conte previously worked with Paul Pogba at Juventus and got the best from the 2018 World Cup winner, which could also appeal to United. He finished his spell at Chelsea with an impressive win ratio of 66%.
