Liverpool given encouragement in pursuit of Bundesliga star
Liverpool have been given a boost in their pursuit of Timo Werner after the RB Leipzig star labelled the atmosphere as special.
Werner has reportedly emerged as a top transfer target for Jurgen Klopp’s side for the summer but RB Leipzig are on the cusp of securing Champions League football and are in no position that requires the sale of their key players.
The 21-year-old only joined Leipzig in the summer and despite insisting he feels at home with the Bundesliga outfit, he did leave the door open to a potential switch to Liverpool in the future.
“I feel at home here at RB right now,” Werner told SportBild, via Get German Football. “Leipzig can continue to grow, and if I could be a part of it I’d de delighted.
“If you were to play at Anfield and hear the fans sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, it would certainly be something special. England has a different feel, but I am also still young player.”
With Mario Gomez sidelined for Germany’s clash with England on Wednesday night, Werner is likely to lead the line against Gareth Southgate’s side in Dortmund.
No player aged 21 and under has scored more goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season than Werner (14).
