Monaco tie full-back down to new deal

Monaco have confirmed that right-back Djibril Sidibe has penned a new contract with the Ligue 1 champions until 2022.

The young defender only joined Monaco from Lille last summer, yet enjoyed a respectable debut campaign on the French Riviera, earning a WhoScored rating of 7.17 in the process.

Tottenham and Arsenal had both been considering a move for the 24-year-old this summer, but his decision to put pen to paper on a five-year deal puts to rest any speculation linking the right-back with a move away from the Stade Louis II.

Sidibe is quoted by ESPN on the new contract as saying: "It is a great mark of gratitude for me to sign the contract. We are part of the top club in France, with our qualities we will defend our title this season.''

Only teammate Kamil Glik (8) was directly involved in more goals than Sidibe (7 - 2 goals, 5 assists) of defenders in Ligue 1 last season.
