Revealed: Neymar among star-studded Nightmare XI of shocking performances

With football now back in full swing for the 2020/21 campaign it's fair to say there have been some memorable performances so far, both good and bad.

Here, as it's Halloween, we look into the latter and some truly shocking displays, not least due to the profile of players involved. Indeed, our Nightmare XI, built up of the worst rated individual performances by position this season has a number of names you certainly wouldn't expect to have endured such a horrific outing this early into the season.

GK: Ralf Fahrmann (Schalke) - 3.66 vs Bayern Munich

It's safe to say Fahrmann isn't the only goalkeeper to have been embarrassed by Bayern over the years, but the keeper certainly had a game to forget against the European champions last month. Of the 11 shots on target he faced, the experienced stopper let in eight and committed an error to concede the sixth - scored by Muller - on an awful night.

RB: Emerson (Real Betis) - 4.87 vs Real Madrid

There are many that feel Emerson could well be Barcelona's best right-back but the club's decision to allow the Brazilian to depart on a two-season long loan didn't look quite so hasty when he came up against fierce rivals Real Madrid last month. Having been booked in his first two appearances of the season, the youngster received as many in one game against the champions, receiving his marching orders just 19 minutes after scoring in his own net...

CB: Harry Maguire (Manchester United) - 4.42 vs Tottenham

While there wasn't a single United player to escape their 6-1 mauling at the hands of Tottenham with any credit, Maguire arguably took the brunt of the flack. The captain committed two errors in one moment of madness to allow Spurs to equalise after a manic start at Old Trafford, compounding a weak header back towards his own goal by pulling down his own teammate trying to clear the ball. Without a single tackle to his name and just one interception and clearance apiece, it was a nightmare display from the Red Devils star.

CB: Paul Baysse (Bordeaux) - 4.52 vs Lens

Having been booked inside 20 minutes, Baysse didn't make the hour against newly-promoted Lens last month, who had dominated Bordeaux to that point. Indeed, Baysee conceded the penalty that saw Lens take a 2-0 lead, with his side actually managing to pull a goal back in his absence.

LB: Lucas Digne (Everton) - 4.62 vs Southampton

Generally one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League, let alone full-backs, Digne had a very bad day at the office at Southampton last week. The Frenchman conceded a straight red card for a dangerous foul on Kyle Walker-Peters after 72 minutes having previously struggled to that point. Indeed, the typically creative and impactful left-back failed to forge a single chance or make a single tackle or interception at St. Mary's.

RM: Rabbi Matondo (Schalke) - 5.37 vs Bayern

While young Welsh international Matondo was far from the only guilty culprit at Bayern, with just one Schalke player earning a rating in excess of six, he was hooked on 65 minutes having failed to have any sort of influence on the game. In that time the 20-year-old completed just nine passes (of 12 in total) and was dispossessed on both of his attempts to dribble past an opponent.

MC: Adrien Rabiot (Juventus) - 4.32 vs Roma

Having been named in Andrea Pirlo's first lineup of the season, putting in a strong display against Sampdoria, Rabiot undid all of his good work the following week at Roma. Sent off for a second bookable offence after 62 minutes having conceded a penalty in the first half, the Frenchman also committed an error that went unpunished by the hosts and would surely have been withdrawn had the referee not done Pirlo's job for him!

MC: Joan Jordan (Sevilla) - 4.78 vs Granada

With the teams in deadlock heading into half-time in Granada, Julen Lopetegui's team talk will have been turned on it's head in the space of one minute of stoppage time before the interval. Jordan received two yellow cards in quick succession - the latter for a completely unneccesary trip off the ball - having previously been dribbled past and dispossessed twice apeice.

LM: Ambroise Oyongo (Montpellier) 5.13 vs Reims

A rare inclusion to have completed the 90 minutes in this XI, it's a wonder Oyongo did in a shocking 4-0 home defeat to Reims. The winger conceded the second of two penalties converted by Boulaye Dia, was booked for said offence and committed an error that ultimately went unpunished. In the entire game the Cameroonian failed to have a shot, create a chance or complete a dribble in an anonymous display in possession.

FW: Ciro Immobile (Lazio) - 5.36 vs Inter

Sent off midway through the second half against Inter earlier in the month having swung out at Arturo Vidal's suggestion that he had dived, it was a case of frustration getting the better of last season's leading scorer. Indeed, Immobile had managed just one shot in his 69 minutes on the pitch, missing the target with said attempt and winning just one of three aerial duels in a match where Inter kept him quiet.

FW: Neymar (PSG) - 5.41 vs Marseille

Making his first appearance of the season in Le Classique, Neymar was booked very early on in a heated affair and was sent off in the dying moments of the game for his part in an unsavoury melee. Having faced criticism for some wayward finishing in the latter stages of the Champions League last season, that certainly carried over into his opening outing, attempting six shots in total but hitting the target with just one. He was tackled when attempting to dribble four times, committed three fouls and failed to create a single chance having misplaced ten of 35 passes.
