Arsenal and Chelsea signings feature in Premier League Team of the Week

Chelsea earned another clean sheet at the weekend, this time at Burnley, and have two players make the Premier League team of the week after their 3-0 victory at Turf Moor. Meanwhile, Arsenal ended their dire run of results away at the Premier League's 'Big Six' with a 1-0 win at Manchester United on Sunday and the Gunners have one player in the Premier League team of the week as a result...

Alex McCarthy (Southampton) - 7.34

Alex McCarthy may have conceded three times in Southampton's entertaining 4-3 win at Aston Villa, but Saints would have come away from Villa Park empty handed had it not been for the 30-year-old. Indeed, McCarthy made seven saves in the Midlands to help land a WhoScored rating of 7.34 as the first of three Southampton players in the Premier League team of the week.

Kyle Walker (Manchester City) - 8.39

The first of two Manchester City representatives in the best XI, Pep Guardiola's side earned a hard fought 1-0 win at Sheffield United in Saturday's lunchtime kick off with Kyle Walker key. The right-back netted against his boyhood club, scoring with his only shot in the victory, while three clearances, two tackles and one interception helped the right-back earn his first WhoScored man of the match award in a Manchester City shirt.

Gabriel (Arsenal) - 7.81

Gabriel's fine showing at Old Trafford on Sunday saw Manchester United restricted to just two shots on target as Arsenal secured their first Premier League win at a 'Big Six' side since January 2015. The former Lille man put in a composed display in the backline as he found a teammate with 91.8% of his 49 passes. Five clearances, five tackles and two interceptions helped the Gunners to all three points and Gabriel to a WhoScored rating of 7.81.

Thiago Silva (Chelsea) - 7.77

It's an all-Brazilian centre-back partnership in the Premier League team of the week as Thiago Silva joins Gabriel in defence. Chelsea earned their fourth successive clean sheet in a 3-0 win at Burnley, with the experienced centre-back putting in a solid shift at the back as his WhoScored rating of 7.77 suggests. Silva showcased his strength of 'passing' in the win, finding a teammate with 92.8% of his 97 passes and made an additional five clearances in a fine showing at Turf Moor.

Joao Cancelo (Manchester City) - 7.73

Finishing off the backline is the second Manchester City player. Joao Cancelo makes the Premier League team of the week for the second gameweek running after his showing in City's 1-0 win at Sheffield United. Cancelo was unlucky not to register an assist as he made four key passes, no player made more this gameweek, in the narrow victory to help yield a WhoScored rating of 7.73.

Nelson Semedo (Wolves) - 8.22

The second Portuguese player in the team of the week, Nelson Semedo shone for Wolves in their 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on Friday night. The former Barcelona man got forward well down the right at Molineux, completing four dribbles, while off the ball, Semedo impressed, making three tackles to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 8.22.

James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) - 9.22

Like Cancelo, James Ward-Prowse makes the Premier League team of the week for the second week on the bounce following a birthday to savour on Sunday. The Southampton midfielder put in a man of the match shift at Villa Park having had a direct hand in three of Saints' four goals over the weekend. Ward-Prowse picked out Jannik Vestergaard for their opening goal before netting two direct free-kicks in the first half with a WhoScored rating of 9.22 in the Midlands enough to land the player of the week award.

Mason Mount (Chelsea) - 8.63

The second Chelsea player to make the grade this week, Mason Mount provided the assist for Kurt Zouma's goal midway through the second half in the Blues' 3-0 win at Burnley, with that coming from one of three key passes. Mount was tidy on the ball as he picked out a Chelsea teammate with 91.3% of his 80 passes and, out of possession, he worked hard to make three tackles to help earn a WhoScored rating of 8.63.

Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) - 9.07

Saints survived a late scare at Villa Park on Sunday with Jack Grealish vital in his best efforts to haul the Villans back into the game over the weekend. The England international provided the assist for Tyrone Mings before he was fouled for the penalty that Ollie Watkins scored. Grealish got his name on the scoresheet in the dying embers as he managed six shots and two key passes as he rounds off the midfield with a WhoScored rating of 9.07.

Danny Ings (Southampton) - 8.55

Danny Ings bagged his fifth league goal of the season at Aston Villa on Sunday and it means he has now had a direct hand in a goal in five of his last six Premier League outings. Ings' goal came from two shots, and the English striker excelled off the ball, too, making three clearances and two tackles and he makes the team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 8.55.

Jamie Vardy (Leicester) - 8.54

Leicester secured a 4-1 win at Leeds on Monday night, with Jamie Vardy in inspiring form on the frontline. One goal and one assist from respective returns of four shots and two key passes, coupled with three dribbles, saw Vardy maintain his fine away start to the season and come away from the clash with a WhoScored rating of 8.54. Impressively, is that Vardy is the eighth English player in the Premier League team of the week, something that will appeal to Gareth Southgate ahead of his squad selection this week.
