Fantasy Football Tips for Gameweek 6 in the Premier League
The tipster was on fire once again in the Premier League last week after predicting Alexis Sanchez to continue his fine form against Hull and Kelechi Iheanacho to profit from Sergio Aguero’s absence. Not only that, but Jason Puncheon was directly involved in one of Crystal Palace’s four goals against Stoke. Maarten Stekelenburg’s unfortunate own goal was the only blemish from a stellar week of tips.
As is the case every week, the fixtures have been examined and here are the top tips that every fantasy football fan should consider, as the tipster looks to make it three weeks of hot tips in a row.
CHARLIE AUSTIN (SOUTHAMPTON)
After a slow start Southampton finally look to have taken Claude Puel’s messages on board and implemented them on the pitch. Having failed to win any of their first four matches of the season, Southampton have now strung three consecutive wins together without conceding a goal.
In that time, Austin has scored four of their six goals and looks to be flying at the moment. He certainly didn’t start the season in Puel’s favoured XI but Austin’s form has given the Saints manager no choice but to play him. In fact, Austin has scored four goals in his last three appearances for Southampton, having managed just one in seven appearances before that.
Southampton face a West Ham side in crisis this weekend. The Hammers have conceded four goals in each of their last two matches – only Stoke (14) have let in more in the Premier League this season than the Hammers (13). Southampton have scored in each of their last six matches away to West Ham and if there was any Saints player likely to beat Adrian at the moment, then it would be Austin.
There is also added spice for Austin, having been close to joining West Ham last summer before a failed medical caused an ugly fallout between the player and club.
CHRISTIAN BENTEKE (CRYSTAL PALACE)
It’s still incredibly early doors but Crystal Palace fans are still looking for their club record signing to burst into life. Christian Benteke has scored once in three league appearances for the Eagles this season but we are yet to see him at his rampaging best.
However, in Sunderland, Benteke has the opposition to spark his Palace career into life following his £30m move from Liverpool over the summer. The Belgium international has scored more goals against Sunderland than any the team in his career (6).
The Black Cats aren’t really showing any signs of improvement under David Moyes and had Jordan Pickford to thank to ensure they weren't on the receiving end of a hiding against Tottenham last time out. With Palace enjoying back-to-back league wins for the first time since December, they enter this fixture with the momentum to get Benteke firing on all cylinders once again.
BRENDAN GALLOWAY (WEST BROM)
Having just put four goals past a dire West Ham outfit the thinking might be to invest in a West Brom player further forward – even more so when you consider Stoke have conceded four goals in six of their last 11 Premier League matches. However, expectations should be tampered this weekend. Their 4-2 win over West Ham was only the second time in 276 Premier League matches that a Tony Pulis side has scored four goals.
Instead, investing in a West Brom defender could be a wiser choice, particularly as they’ve only scored once in their last four matches away to Stoke. While scoring goals has been a problem at the Bet365 Stadium, shutting them out hasn’t. They’ve kept a clean sheet in three of their last four visits to Stoke and should be well equipped to stop a Stoke outfit completely devoid of form.
Brendan Galloway’s arrival from Everton has already had a positive effect on the West Brom defence, allowing Jonny Evans to return to the heart of the back four. Galloway would represent a cheaper option to your team, which would free up funds to upgrade players in other areas of the team. Only Arsenal (32) and the two Manchester sides (both 31) have kept more clean sheets in the last three Premier League seasons than the Baggies (28).
YANNICK BOLASIE (EVERTON)
Everton have put four straight wins together in the Premier League for the first time since April 2014 and are flying under new manager Ronald Koeman. A 2-0 defeat in the EFL Cup in midweek against Championship side Norwich came as a surprise but with some first-team players to return to the fray, that should prove a mere blip.
Since becoming Everton’s club record signing, Bolasie has already shown a great understanding on the pitch with close friend off it, Romelu Lukaku. In fact, there has only been one assist to goalscorer combination (Dimitri Payet to Michail Antonio – 3) that has been more prolific in the Premier League this season than Bolasie to Lukaku (2).
In just four appearances this season Bolasie is already close to matching the amount of assists he recorded in 26 appearances in the league last season (3). The Toffees have scored at least two goals in all three of their previous meetings with Bournemouth, in which Lukaku has been on the scoresheet in both. Someone needs to provide for Lukaku and Bolasie appears the man in form to help the Belgium international add to his tally of four goals in his last two appearances.
