Ronaldo leads Man Utd trio in Premier League Team of the Week
As Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham stumbled in the race to finish in the top four, Manchester United capitalised as they beat basement boys Norwich 3-2 on home turf, with Cristiano Ronaldo the star man. United and Brentford are the dominant sides in the team of the week with three players each, while Southampton, Newcastle and Norwich are all represented.
Fraser Forster (Southampton) - 8.51
The first of two Southampton players, Fraser Forster was a rock at the back for the south coast side in their 1-0 win over Arsenal. The 34-year-old made six saves in a clean sheet attaining display that yielded a WhoScored rating of 8.51.
Kristoffer Ajer (Brentford) - 8.01
Brentford earned a late 2-1 win at Watford, with Kristoffer Ajer registering his third assist of the season at Vicarage Road. The defender turned provider for Christian Norgaard with just 15 minutes on the clock, that coming from one of two key passes, while three tackles, two interceptions and one clearance helped Ajer to a spot in the team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 8.01.
Jan Bednarek (Southampton) - 8.64
The second Saints player in the side is their match winner against Arsenal on Saturday. Jan Bednarek scored his seventh Premier League goal of his career for the south coast side on the stroke of half time, getting the better of Aaron Ramsdale with his only effort on goal. The Pole defended astutely, too, as he made seven clearances and five interceptions to land a WhoScored rating of 8.64.
Pontus Jansson (Brentford) - 7.96
Brentford maintained their good form late on at Watford as Pontus Jansson bagged an injury time winner at Vicarage Road. Jansson picked the perfect time to net his second league goal of the campaign, scoring with his only shot of the game, to make the XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.96.
Matt Targett (Newcastle) - 7.72
The first of two Newcastle players to feature rounds off the backline. Matt Targett put in a huge shift in their 2-1 win over Leicester, making four tackles, four interceptions and two clearances as the Magpies maintained their superb home run at the Foxes' expense.
Anthony Elanga (Manchester United) - 8.22
Manchester United have three representatives feature in the Premier League team of the week with Anthony Elanga occupying the right wing spot. The youngster landed a WhoScored rating of 8.22 in United's 3-2 win over Norwich as he provided his first assist of the season on Saturday, that coming from one of three key passes. Elanga worked hard off the ball, too, making four tackles to cap a fine performance.
Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle) - 8.70
For the second game running, Bruno Guimaraes landed the WhoScored man of the match awarded as he shone in Newcastle's 2-1 win over Leicester. The Brazilian fired in goals number two and three of the season against Leicester, finding a way past Kasper Schmeichel with two of four shots. Guimaraes broke forward from midfield well, completing three dribbles, and worked hard off the ball as he made four tackles to land a rating of 8.70.
Christian Eriksen (Brentford) - 8.01
Christian Eriksen joins Guimaraes in the middle of the park, as the Dane provided the assist for Brentford's late winner at Watford on Saturday. The Bees have won all five league matches Eriksen has started following his January arrival and it's easy to see why with three dribbles and three key passes to go with his assist helping the 30-year-old to a WhoScored rating of 8.01.
Jadon Sancho (Manchester United) - 7.90
The second Manchester United player in the side, Jadon Sancho may not have had a direct hand in a goal in Saturday's 3-2 win over Norwich, but it wasn't for want of trying. Indeed, Sancho made three key passes and had three shots in the victory, all the while completing four dribbles, to secure a spot in the side with a WhoScored rating of 7.90.
Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) - 9.67
The WhoScored Premier League player of the week, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his second successive league hat-trick at Old Trafford as he hit the back of the net with three of eight shots against Norwich on Saturday. Ronaldo's hat-trick saw him surge up the scoring leaderboard and earn the WhoScored award with a rating of 9.67.
Remaining with Manchester United's 3-2 win over Norwich, Teemu Pukki had a direct hand in both of the Canaries' goals at Old Trafford, following up his assist for Kieran Dowell's goal on the stroke of half time with the equaliser early in the second half. While Norwich were unable to hold out for a positive result, Pukki did enough to nail down his place in the Premier League team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 7.81.
