Big money Bayern pair make our Fanteam Champions League XI

The Champions League is close to its halfway point as we enter gameweek three of the competition. The groups are beginning to take shape, but as Tottenham proved last year, anything remains possible at this stage of Europe's elite club competition.

Here we continue our partnership with Fanteam as we look ahead to Tuesday's Champions League action. With an 105m budget, we've selected an XI from the six evening matches that stand to win a stake from the €10,000 prize pool.

Combining a blend of affordable options with some big hitters, our stand out inclusion is Robert Lewandowski, who maintained his fine goalscoring form with his goal in Bayern's 2-2 draw with Augsburg. The Polish hitman has scored in every Bundesliga match this season, and as three goals in two Champions League appearances.

At 13.8m, Lewandowski will take out 13% of your budget, but the goals alone could be the difference between a small return and a hefty profit. He isn't the only Bayern player to feature in our XI, with Coutinho also included in the side. Spending a combined 26.8m on two players represents a gamble, and yet the Brazilian comes into the clash with Olympiacos with an assist to his name. In fact, Coutinho has had a direct hand in six league and Champions League goals this season, all of which have come in his last five outings.

Angel Di Maria is the final big money player in the side at 12.8m, and is the first of three PSG players. The Argentine earned a perfect WhoScored 10 rating against Nice on Friday night and will be chomping at the bit to make another substantial impact in attack. His brace against former emloyers Real Madrid last month highlighted his goalscoring quality in the Champions League and he'll be eager to repeat the feat as PSG seek their third win from three Champions League matches.

Of course, with the big money acquisitions, you need to find a bargain and in Marko Marin (5.3m), Emmanuel Bonaventure (5.3m) and Florin Andone (5.3m), we scoured the market in order to accomodate the big hitters. FK Crvena Zvezda will look to pile further misery upon a downtrodden Spurs side at the Tottenham Hostpur Stadium and Marin, who has two assists from two games, will be central to that.

Football fans will remember Bonaventure from his man of the match display against Real Madrid as he netted twice at the Bernabeu and the 21-year-old will aim to prove he is the big man for the big occasion when Club Brugge take on PSG. Andone, meanwhile, got off the mark with his first and second goals following his move to Galatasaray and against this Real Madrid side that is struggling defensively, the Romanian is out to bet his name on the scoresheet once more.

Looking at the defence, Manchester City are yet to concede in the Champions League and we're banking on their backline to keep Atalanta out on home turf. Ederson (10.3m) and John Stones (9.2m) both make our side, as do PSG pair Thiago Silva (9.6m) and Thomas Meunier (9.5m). Our highest priced defender, though, comes in the form of Alex Sandro (10.9m), with Juventus seeking a further three points at Lokomotiv Moscow's expense.

The Brazilian has license to push forward having chipped in with one assist in the competition this season and he'll be aiming to shut Lokomotiv out, so the left-back seems a handy addition from both a defensive and attacking perspective.
