Nelson, Sancho and Sessegnon take places in European U21 best XI

As far as qualifying for the latest young team of the week was concerned across Europe’s top five leagues, the bar couldn’t have been set any higher on Friday night.

Frankfurt hosted struggling Fortuna Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga and 20-year-old striker Luka Jovic was in blistering form in front of goal, starting a remarkable five-goal haul with an outrageous scissor kick midway through the first half. The Serbian hit the target with all six of his attempts at goal to earn a perfect 10 rating from WhoScored.com, and his price with Football INDEX has more than doubled over the last seven days alone, now at £3.26 per share.

That’s not quite as high as his strike partner in this week’s best XI of players aged 21 and under, with Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson (£3.96) also seeing a price hike following a man of the match display at Nuernberg. Deployed up front by Hoffenheim boss Julian Nagelsmann, the teenager doubled his league goal tally with a match-winning brace, scoring with both of his attempts at goal for a rating of 8.84.

The forward pairing were joined by a further five Bundesliga youngsters this time around, with Werder Bremen midfielder Maximilian Eggestein one well worth keeping an eye on, with a modest share price of £1.57 with Football INDEX. Like Nelson, the 21-year-old also bagged a match-winning double at Schalke to take his tally to four for the season and his impressive form will have caught the eye of the big hitters in the Bundesliga, if not further afield as yet.

Jadon Sancho was on the scoresheet once more for Borussia Dortmund and is joined by teammate and centre-back Dan-Axel Zagadou in the XI after another convincing win, this time at Stuttgart. The former, who made his international debut last week, has rocketed into the top 20 players on Football INDEX’s stockmarket (£5.29 per share) having had a direct hand in eight league goals already this season.

Elsewhere Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon makes up a trio of English teenagers in this week’s lineup following the first Premier League goal of his career at Cardiff. The 18-year-old took his chance very well and despite a costly defeat against a fellow newly promoted side, the youngster’s confidence should have been boosted after a difficult start to the campaign, so watch this space.

Gianluigi Donnarumma takes the spot between the posts despite conceding a last-gasp Mauro Icardi winner in the Milan derby, producing three saves and completing 93 per cent of his passes as Gatusso’s side looked to build out from the back. Meanwhile the full-back spots are filled by Ligue 1 pairing Enock Kwateng (Nantes) and Lille’s Fode Ballo-Toure, while Hannover summer signing Florent Muslija takes the final place in midfield having now scored in each of his two appearances for the club.
