Ronaldo finally claims top spot in European player form rankings

For the fifth gameweek running we have a new leader atop the European form rankings, with Youssef En-Nesyri the latest to surrender pole position.

The Leganes youngster saw a three-game scoring streak in which he netted six times in total come to an end at Real Sociedad on Saturday, slipping to fourth in the rankings as a consequence.

Raheem Sterling (third) and Lionel Messi (fifth) are non movers sandwiching the 21-year-old on the leaderboard, with the former not in action and the latter both scoring and missing a penalty at the weekend.

Meanwhile there’s a high climber into second, with Teji Savnier rising all the way from 18th last time around to take a place on the podium this week after another stellar all round performance. The Nimes midfielder completed six tackles and four dribbles in victory over Dijon, though it was a stunning strike to open the scoring from close to the halfway line that earned the 27-year-old a WhoScored.com rating of 9.65 on Friday night.

It’s not the first time the Ligue 1 gem has been so high in the rankings, though he is beaten to top spot by a new face this time around, although a very familiar one in general.

Cristiano Ronaldo claims top spot this week having risen steadily over the past month, improving on his standing in second last month following another goal and assist against Frosinone.

It was the fourth league game running in which the Portuguese had found the net and third in which he had also set up a goal for a teammate, meaning he is not only the top scorer in Serie A (19 goals) but now level with Suso at the head of the assist charts too (eight).

Elsewhere, aside from Savanier there is only one new face in this week’s top ten, with Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland climbing from 15th to seventh. The German may not have scored in the 2-0 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf but did register an assist, meaning he has now had a direct hand in at least one goal in each of his last four Bundesliga appearances.

Elsewhere from Germany there are three new faces on the leaderboard from last week, with Bayern’s Kingsley Coman (15th) ranking highest of the trio following after a brace at Augsburg. Yussuf Poulsen also scored twice in victory at Stuttgart to scrape onto the leaderboard, while Kerem Demirbay (17th) returns  following a perfect ten rating against Hannover, scoring once, registering an assist and hitting the woodwork twice to earn a fifth WhoScored.com man of the match award in his last eight Bundesliga appearances.

Lyon’s Nabil Fekir is up to 13th having now scored in four of his last six league outings, while Juventus’ Paulo Dybala is the only new qualifier this time around.

The Argentine ended a 10-match goalless drought in the league last Friday night but has now had a hand in four goals in his last four league starts, now having started six of Juventus’ last eight Serie A matches to come into consideration.
