Fantasy Football Guide: Who scores the goals between Liverpool and Tottenham

Few would have expected this at the start of the season but heading in to Christmas it appears Tottenham are Liverpool's biggest challengers for the Premier League title this season.

After successfully highlighting the lack of goals in the Manchester City squad in the Manchester Derby, now is time to turn our attention to the biggest game in midweek. If you are looking for a captain choice then it appears it should really be between Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah.

Harry Kane - 6 goals in 11 appearances

Liverpool's patched up defence will have to be at their best to keep Harry Kane quiet on Wednesday night, with the England captain heading to Anfield in the form of his life. Kane has remarkably played a direct hand in 19 goals in the Premier League this season, as many as Manchester United have managed as a team and more than the likes of Manchester City (17) and Arsenal (10). Kane only needs one more goal to become the first player in Europe's top five leagues to reach double figures for both goals and assists and it's not even Christmas. Kane also has a good record against Liverpool, with six goals in 11 appearances against the Reds in all competitions. Notably, four of those goals have come at Anfield.

Son Heung-Min - 1 goal in 9 appearances

Harry Kane isn't the only Tottenham forward in the form of their life, with Son Heung-Min also excelling this season. The 28-year-old has already reached 10 league goals for the campaign, just one behind top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Son has also weighed in with four assists in the Premier League this season but his personal record against Liverpool is far from impressive. While he is certainly in the right form to change that, he heads to Anfield with only one goal in nine previous appearances against Liverpool and that was back in 2017.

Mohamed Salah - 7 goals in 12 appearances

Mohamed Salah is one of four players to have reached 10+ goals in the Premier League this season along with Son Heung-Min. Salah has scored in three straight matches heading into Wednesday's huge top of the table clash and generally enjoys playing against Tottenham. Salah has scored against Spurs with three different clubs in his career (FC Basel, Fiorentina and Liverpool). Overall, Salah has netted seven goals in 12 appearances against the north London outfit, including three in three at Anfield.

Sadio Mane - 2 goals in 12 appearances

Without a goal in his last seven Premier League appearances and without a goal or an assist in each of his last six, Sadio Mane's personal record against Tottenham does not inspire confidence ahead of Wednesday's match. The 28-year-old only has two goals in 12 previous appearances against Tottenham and both strikes came in one match during the back end of the 2016/17 campaign. He has never lost to Tottenham since joining Liverpool but generally struggles to score goals against them.

Roberto Firmino - 3 goals in 9 appearances

Even Roberto Firmino may be more likely to score against Tottenham than his Liverpool team-mate Mane. Firmino only has two Pemier League goals this season but his recent record against Tottenham is strong. He has netted in three of the last four Premier League matches between the two sides, scoring all three of his career goals against them in that time.

Gareth Bale - 3 goals in 11 appearances

It's remarkable to think Tottenham head to Anfield top of the table and Gareth Bale has basically not contributed to their success this season. He is yet to make any impact since returning over the summer but does at least have fond recent memories against Liverpool. He played a direct hand in three goals in his last two Premier League matches against the Reds and of course scored twice, including a stunning overhead kick, to down Liverpool for Real Madrid in the Champions League final in 2018. Overall, however, he has only managed three goals in 11 career appearances against Liverpool and is unlikely to start at Anfield.
