Brits Abroad: Sancho struggles again as Kane bails out Bayern

Bayern Munich kept their slim title hopes alive with a late win over RB Leipzig, while Bologna maintained their surprise top-four push with a fifth successive victory. Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund, Sporting CP, Ajax and Lille all dropped points in their respective leagues.

Continuing with Brits Abroad, we take a look at how the British players performed across the continent this week.

Harry Kane - Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich came perilously close to dropping further behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race and had Harry Kane to thank for helping return to winning ways. Kane struck with two of seven shots, marking his 26th and 27th league goals of the season, and made one key pass and one successful dribble. Bayern remain eight points off Bayer at the top of the table but the 30-year-old's brace keeps their slim title hopes alive.

Eric Dier - Bayern Munich

Amidst reports that Bayern Munich won't be keeping Eric Dier beyond the end of the season, the on-loan centre-back put in a solid if unspectacular shift as FC Hollywood beat RB Leipzig 2-1 on home turf. Dier made five clearances and won two aerial duels as he earned a WhoScored rating of 6.68.

Josh Doig - Sassuolo

Sassuolo fell to a fifth loss in their last six games as they crashed to a 3-2 home defeat to Empoli. Josh Doig struggled in the encounter as evidenced by a WhoScored rating of 6.40, during which he made two tackles and one interception. The 21-year-old did create one chance to his credit but the loss leaves Sassuolo in the relegation zone.

Lewis Ferguson - Bologna

As one Scot struggles, another shines with Lewis Ferguson helping Bologna to a fifth successive win. The surprise Champions League chasers claimed a 2-0 win over Verona with Ferguson defending well from the front as he made two tackles in the victory. One shot, one key pass and one aerial win marked a solid performance from the 24-year-old.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek - AC Milan

The spoils were shared in at the San Siro on Sunday night as AC Milan and Atalanta played out a 1-1 draw. While Rafael Leao's superb solo effort drew the attention, Ruben Loftus-Cheek did all he could to help Stefano Pioli's side to victory on home turf. Loftus-Cheek returned a WhoScored rating of 7.55 as he managed six dribbles and four shots in the stalemate.

Djed Spence - Genoa

Genoa secured a 2-0 home win over Udinese at the weekend with Djed Spence coming on in the 78th minute. The on-loan right-back didn't have enough time to make his mark in the victory.

Jadon Sancho - Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund fell to a shock 3-2 home loss to Hoffenheim with a quickfire Maximilian Beier second half double enough for the visitors to secure all three points. Jadon Sancho was withdrawn in the 75th minute having failed to contribute to a goal though it wasn't for want of trying with Sancho managing four dribbles and three key passes.

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens - Borussia Dortmund

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens replaced Sancho in Borussia Dortmund's loss to Hoffenheim but he struggled to influence the result. Indeed, the teen managed one key pass and failed to have a shot or complete a dribble in a sub-par cameo.

Marcus Edwards - Sporting CP

Sporting CP dropped points in the Liga Portugal title race as they were held to a 3-3 draw at Rio Ave on Sunday night. Marcus Edwards replaced Trincao on the stroke of half time but struggled in the final third. Indeed, Edwards managed just one successful dribble and one key pass and was dispossessed three times to land a WhoScored rating of just 5.94.

Angel Gomes - Lille

Angel Gomes put in his worst rated performance of the season as Lille crashed to a 3-1 defeat at Toulouse on Sunday. The 23-year-old returned a WhoScored rating of just 5.71 as he struggled in a deeper role at the Stadium Municipal having been dispossessed twice, and failed to make a single tackle, interception or clearance.

Chuba Akpom - Ajax

Chuba Akpom came on midway through the second half of Ajax's 2-0 loss at AZ Alkmaar on Sunday afternoon and faltered in the final third. While he made one key pass and one dribble, Akpom was also dispossessed once and made one unsuccessful touch resulting in a turnover of possession as Ajax's winless run extended to four matches.
