Chelsea will make a huge statement of intent if they can beat Manchester United on home turf on Sunday afternoon. The Blues have been nigh-on unstoppable in recent weeks, but will be aware that a change in manager could prove an additional boost for United at Stamford Bridge.

Form guide 

At the time of writing, Chelsea top the form table having picked up 16 from the last six games, the only blip on the record coming in their 1-1 draw with Burnley prior to the international break. That draw aside, Thomas Tuchel's side have been nigh-on imperious of late. They have netted 18 league goals and conceded just twice in the last six Premier League games and they come into the welcome of Manchester United as favourites. 

Michael Carrick oversees his first league match as interim boss and will be keen to follow up the midweek 2-0 win at Villarreal with another victory. However, United's league form has been poor. Only Everton (2), Aston Villa and Newcastle (both 3) have collected fewer points than United (4) over the last six matches coming into gameweek 13, with the sole victory coming at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A 4-1 loss at Watford ultimately cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job last weekend. 

Team news

Chelsea have been rocked by injury to Ben Chilwell, who was forced off midway through the second half of their comfortable win over Juventus in midweek. N'Golo Kante lasted just 37 minutes of the 4-0 Champions League victory at Stamford Bridge and he joins Chilwell and Mateo Kovacic on the sidelines. Kai Havertz will also be assessed following a hamstring injury sustainsted at Leicester. Marcos Alonso is expected to deputise for Chilwell on the left, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkley and Saul Niguez are competing to partner Jorginho in the middle of the park. 

Paul Pogba has served his suspension, yet is ruled out for the remainder of the year owing to injury, with Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane joining the midfielder on the sidelines. Harry Maguire is suspended following his red card at Watford last week, with Eric Bailly to partner Victor Lindelof at the heart of the defence. Fred and Luke Shaw face late fitness tests, but Mason Greenwood, who recently tested positive for COVID-19, is set to miss out.

Key Battle: Romelu Lukaku vs Cristiano Ronaldo

The winner and runner up for last season's Capocannoniere potentially lock horns in west London on Sunday in what promises to be a crunch key battle in the capital. Romelu Lukaku was fit enough for the bench against Juventus in midweek and will be desperate to start against his former employers at the weekend. The Belgian hasn't featured for the Blues since their 4-0 win over Malmoe FF last month, though a seven-game goalless run at the time suggests his injury wasn't exactly the be all and end all for the Blues.

For Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese star won the man of the match award in Manchester United's 2-0 win at Villarreal in midweek and he'll be keen to better a return of just one league goal in seven when United take on the Blues on Sunday. In 10 Premier League outings, Ronaldo has never scored against Chelsea, a streak he'll seek to break this weekend.
