The Best Bet: Serbia and Switzerland to cancel each other out
Serbia’s meeting with Switzerland is a tough one to predict. The former were impressive in their 1-0 win over Costa Rica, yet their profligacy may come back to haunt them, while the latter were able to hold Brazil to a 1-1 draw. Both teams remain in a strong position to progress to the next round of the World Cup, but it’s Serbia who are in the driving seat to progress.
That being said, they’ll be looking to top this group and put another three points on the board before the final round of Group E fixtures next week as they end their round with a meeting with Brazil. However, after Switzerland were written off before a ball was kicked against Brazil last weekend, the European side still put in a good account of themselves.
Brazil were pre-tournament favourites, but Switzerland were solid as they limited the Selecao’s goalscoring chances. They’ll be looking to hold firm once more to stifle an attack consisting of the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Dusan Tadic and have the experience at the back to limit their influence. Going forward, too, they have the personnel to hurt any side, with Xherdan Shaqiri pulling the strings, and, as they proved against Brazil, are a threat from set-pieces.
Neither side will be keen to lose this, with Brazil’s meeting with Costa Rica the early match of the day. They have the defensive means to shut one another out and the attacking personnel to score. A draw is a distinct possibility in this one and the draw and both teams to score as high as 5.02 with Smarkets is well worth your attention for this one.
