Chelsea Season Preview: Key Player, Signing to Watch, Predicted Lineup and Betting Tip

Chelsea are next up in our 2024/25 Premier League season preview as we look back at their 2023/24 campaign, pick out the key player, the signing to watch, predict where they'll finish and make a betting tip via oddschecker.

2023/24 Season Roundup

Chelsea started poorly under Mauricio Pochettino but began to turn the screw in 2024 as they collected the fourth most points this year. The Blues finished the campaign sixth to book a return to European football yet even after the Argentine steadied the ship at Stamford Bridge, he was relieved of his duties at the end of the season.

Key Player - Moises Caicedo

Many may point to Cole Palmer's impact in the final third but Moises Caicedo started to show why Chelsea spent big to secure his services last summer in the second half of the campaign. The ball-winning midfielder was impressive for Ecuador at the 2024 Copa America and the hope now is he can continue that fine form into the Premier League season.

Signing to Watch - Filip Jorgensen

Goalkeeper wasn't necessarily a position of weakness for Chelsea last season, however they quickly made their move to land Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal when it became clear they were looking to land another goalkeeper. The young Dane is able to pick out a teammate from range and made more saves (143) than any other player in La Liga last season. There is ample pressure on Jorgensen to succeed following a solid breakout campaign with the Yellow Submarine.

Predicted opening day XI: Jorgensen; Gusto, Disasi, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Lavia, Caicedo; Palmer, Nkunku, Neto

Predicted finish - 7th

Betting tip

Chelsea may have finished sixth last season yet with a new manager at the helm and a raft of new signings, the Blues will take some time to get up to speed. They haven't looked particularly effective in pre-season and it'll take a while for Enzo Maresca to really get his ideas.

As such, you can back Chelsea to finish outside the top six at 7/4 with William Hill, via oddschecker (price correct as of 10:00 on 13/08/2024).
