Liverpool and Manchester United stars drop down the form rankings
There’s a familiar face atop the Premier League form rankings as a man of the match display in midweek saw another surge into the top three.
10) Marcus Rashford (down 7) - 7.53
After a fine start to life under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Marcus Rashford was ineffective as Manchester United battled to a late 2-2 draw with Burnley to secure a point. He may’ve scored five league goals since the Norwegian’s appointment, but a WhoScored rating of 6.11 on Tuesday night was his lowest since Solskjaer took over the Old Trafford reins. The England international may still boast a 7.53 rating, yet he’s down to 10th in the form rankings.
9) Mohamed Salah (down 7) - 7.54
Liverpool failed to capitalise on Manchester City’s 2-1 loss at Newcastle in midweek as they dropped points at home to Leicester on Wednesday night, labouring to a 1-1 draw with the Foxes. Like Rashford, Mohamed Salah failed to make the sustained impact in the midweek matches and, as a result, he drops seven places in the form rankings, falling from second to ninth with a WhoScored rating of 7.64.
8) Aleksandar Mitrovic (up 24) - 7.64
Fulham battled from 2-0 down to overcome Brighton 4-2 in midweek, in what was the ideal result for the Cottagers considering their circumstances. Aleksandar Mitrovic was crucial in the turnaround at Craven Cottage as he notched a brace in a man of the match display in west London. He now has 10 goals for the season, with his midweek performance pushing him up 24 places in the form rankings.
7) Jan Bednarek (-) - 7.67
After rising 48 spots in the form rankings the previous week, Southampton centre-back Jan Bednarek kept his place in seventh in the standings, with his rating increasing to 7.67. His man of the match display in midweek means he is one of three Premier League players to win three successive accolades this season as he continues to shine in the Southampton defence.
6) Raul Jimenez (up 30) - 7.70
West Ham were put to the sword by a rampant Wolves side at Molineux on Tuesday night with striker Raul Jimenez in blistering form in attack. The Mexican netted twice to secure the man of the match award and take his rating in recent weeks up to 7.70. It’s enough to make the top 10, but a Wolves teammate just pips him to fifth.
5) Joao Moutinho (up 24) - 7.72
Chipping in with two assists in midweek, Joao Moutinho now has six to his name, five of which have come in his last five Premier League outings. The experienced midfielder perhaps doesn’t get the credit he deserves, but that isn’t to say his form of late hasn’t gone unnoticed on WhoScored, with his rating an impressive 7.72.
4) Ricardo Pereira (-) - 7.81
Leicester fought valiantly to deny Liverpool all three points on Wednesday night and it means that, while Ricardo Pereira’s rating dropped to a 7.81, he remains fourth in the form rankings. The Portuguese full-back completed more dribbles (17) than any other Premier League player in January as he maintains his fine start to life in England.
3) Josh King (up 38) - 7.81
Edging Pereira out of the top three is Bournemouth star Josh King. The Cherries frontman is our Premier League player of the week and for good reason as he returned a perfect 10 in Bournemouth’s noteworthy 4-0 win over Chelsea. Successive man of the match outings has seen his WhoScored rating of late soar up to 7.81.
2) Son Heung-Min (NQ) - 7.90
After missing the 2-1 win at Fulham while on international duty, Son Heung-Min returned to the Tottenham XI following South Korea’s Asian Cup exit and made an immediate impact as Spurs moved on from Carabao and FA Cup disappointments to overcome Watford 2-1. The South Korean star netted the decisive equaliser against the Hornets and a man of the match outing means his rating of late sits at a commendable 7.90.
1) Paul Pogba (-) - 8.12
Paul Pogba’s rating may have dropped to 8.12, but it’s more than enough to retain top spot in the player form standings. The Manchester United star netted from the spot in the 2-2 draw with Burnley and with nine league goals to his name, he is now enjoying his most prolific league campaign to date. It may not have been a vintage Pogo performance by any means, but the World Cup winner proved once again that he is United’s big man for the big occasion as he shouldered the responsibility to calmly slot past Tom Heaton from 12 yards with three minutes of normal time to play.
