On fire Manchester City star the Premier League player of the month
Sergio Agüero has been named WhoScored.com’s Premier League player of the month for February having taken the lead in the scoring charts in England’s top-flight.
The Argentine pips teammate Raheem Sterling to the award by the narrowest of margins having scored at least three more goals than any other player over the course of the month, taking his tally to 18 for the season with seven in February alone.
The Manchester City hitman scored his second and third hat-tricks of the league campaign when it mattered most against Arsenal and Chelsea as Pep Guardiola’s side kept the pressure on Liverpool at the top of the table. That said, it was his match-winner and the only goal of the game against West Ham that could prove most critical in the Centurions bid to retain their Premier League crown.
Aguero fired off 15 shots in total over four appearances, which was the third most in the division, but hit the target with more than any other player (eight), having just one attempt saved.
Of all players to attempt a minimum of five shots over the month only Chris Wood and Gerard Deulofeu (both 60 per cent) boasted a stronger conversion rate (46.7) than the South American, who was named man of the match in victory over Arsenal.
He then picked up a third perfect 10 rating of the Premier League season against Chelsea, though the aforementioned Sterling was given the award having also earned the top score versus the Blues.
