Manchester United midfielder ruled out for up to a month
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Maraoune Fellaini is sidelined for up to a month with a calf injury suffered in training.
Fellaini is yet to start a match under Solskjaer and there were suggestions the Belgium international would leave the club this month.
The 31-year-old was a key player under former manager Jose Mourinho and the Portuguese played an integral part in United handing Fellaini a new two-year deal in the summer.
However, Fellaini is yet to start a match under Solskjaer but an any attempts of selling him have now been scuppered due to injury.
“It is sad,” The Guardian quote Solskjaer as saying of Fellaini’s injury. “There are X factors in different players and we all know Felli’s X factor and he’ll be working hard to get back in.”
“Alexis has trained all week so hopefully he’ll be available, and Felli is the long-term one that’s out. He’ll be out for a few weeks.”
Fellaini has struggled to stay fit for prolonged periods for a number of the years now, which has contributed to the fact he has only made 30 appearances in the Premier League since the start of last season.
Since August 2016, only Marcus Rashford (8) has scored more goals than Fellaini (5) as a substitute of all United players in all competitions.
