West Ham have announced Havard Nordtveit has left the club and returned to Germany to join Hoffenheim for an undisclosed fee.
The Hammers signed Nordtveit on a free transfer from Gladbach last summer but the 26-year-old struggled to make any impression in the Premier League last season.
Despite a troubled 12 months in England, his reputation has remained intact in Germany and Julian Nagelsmann’s side have moved to hand the versatile Norway international a way back to the Bundesliga.
“I would like to thank Havard for his commitment and hard work last season,” West Ham manager Slaven Bilic told the club’s official website. “He is an excellent professional and we wish him all the very best at Hoffenheim.”
Hoffenheim achieved their highest-ever league finish last season after being guided to fourth place by young manager Julian Nagelsmann and they will now be preparing for Champions League football next season.
Nordtveit only started 11 Premier League matches last season and was West Ham’s lowest rated player from those that started at least 10 games (6.47).
