Claudio Ranieri gets first management job post-Leicester

Ligue 1 side Nantes have announced they have appointed former Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri as Sergio Conceicao’s replacement on a two-year deal.

Nantes have been forced into a position to appoint a second manager in space of less than six months after Conceicao made the decision to return to Portugal to manager Porto earlier this month.

The Ligue 1 side were heavily linked with a number of different managers but have now coaxed Ranieri out of the wilderness after the club were given special dispensation to appoint a manager aged over 65.

Ranieri has been out of work since being sacked as Leicester manager in February despite the fact he led the Foxes to a shock Premier League title in the 2015/16 campaign.

The 65-year-old returns to Ligue 1 for the first time since 2014 where he spent two years as Monaco manager and will be tasked with firing Nantes into Europe after their stunning second half to the season saw them finish in seventh.

In this calendar year only Monaco (53), Paris Saint-Germain (48), Bordeaux and Nice (both 34) have picked up more points than Nantes (32).
