West Ham in talks to land former Chelsea star

West Ham are hoping to sign former Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante from Saudi outfit Al-Ittihad this summer, reports the Guardian.

Kante was superb for France at Euro 2024 after his return to the international stage, playing a key role in their progression to the semi-finals of the competition.

And his performances for the national team have caught the eye of West Ham, who are looking to add to their midfield in the off-season with the club unlikely to pursue a permanent move for Kalvin Phillips after he disappointed during his loan spell.

Kante only moved to Saudi Arabia 12 months ago after a seven-year spell with Chelsea and while he is believed to be happy where he is, the Frenchman is said to be open to a return to London.

West Ham would need to pay around £20m to sign the 33-year-old, who proved in Germany he can still cut it at the highest level.

Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui is a long-term admirer of Kante having tried to sign him during his brief stint as Real Madrid boss.
