Diego Costa has raised further questions about his long-term future at Chelsea after suggesting he is struggling to settle with life in London.
Despite playing an integral role in Chelsea’s Premier League title challenge this season there have been constant questions about his future at the club all season.
The Spain international has already revealed he tried to force a move away from Stamford Bridge last summer and return to Atletico Madrid after just two years away from Diego Simeone’s side, while he was dropped by manager Antonio Conte in January following a training ground incident.
Chelsea had been working on extending Costa’s stay at the club beyond his current deal that is due to expire in 2019, but talks were shelved until the summer following his war of words with Conte.
The Chelsea manager is widely expected to strengthen his offensive options in the summer and it remains to be seen whether new strikers will either complement Costa or replace the controversial striker.
It would seem like the latter, particularly after Costa revealed he is struggling to adapt to the London lifestyle despite still being happy at Chelsea.
“I have another two years on my contract. I am always very honest with those close to me. I tell that I am very happy at Chelsea,” he told SFR Sport, via London Evening Standard.
“The club gives me a lot, the fans, the team-mates. I am in a team that is winning and that motivates me even more. Last season was not the best, not just for me but for others players and for Chelsea.
“This year I hope will be different, that we win titles. If you are in a team that is winning, you always want to stay for the allotted amount of time.
“I am happy at Chelsea, I am not necessarily saying that I am happy with my life in London, but that is something completely different. It has nothing to do with it.”
Costa started the season in tremendous form and still has a chance to finish the season as the Premier League’s top goal scorer, but he would require a huge finish to the season to do so. Romelu Lukaku, who could end up replacing Costa at the Bridge in the summer, is currently five goals clear (23) of the Chelsea ace.
However, there are actually concerns about Costa’s form in front of goal having failed to score any goals in his last five appearances for Chelsea.
