Tottenham will rekindle their interest in Barcelona outcast Andre Gomes in January, reports The Daily Mail.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side wanted to sign Gomes over the summer but Barcelona took the Portugal international off the market at the end of the window.
However, Tottenham will look resurrect their interest in the 24-year-old when the transfer window opens in January as Pochettino looks to bolster his midfield options.
Pochettino has already conceded he has to manage Mousa Dembele’s workload due to ongoing ankle problems and Gomes’ style closely resembles the 30 year old's.
Gomes only joined Barcelona over 12 months ago but the former Valencia midfielder has endured a tortuous time at the Camp Nou and does not appear to have a long-term future at the club following the arrival of former Tottenham flop Paulinho in the summer.
The Barcelona midfielder has only managed 28 minutes of playing in the league this season and could be forced into a January move in order to keep his place in the Portugal squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup, particuarly with Ernesto Valverde's side plotting another move for Philippe Coutinho.
Since the start of last season, Barcelona have won a greater proportion of their league matches without Gomes in the starting XI (85.7%) compared to when he has started (64.7%). In fact, three of the four league defeats they have suffered in that time have come when Gomes featured from the off.
