Vardy and Hernandez on Manchester United’s transfer shortlist

Manchester United have earmarked moves for Leicester striker Jamie Vardy and former Red Devil Javier Hernandez if they fail to beat Manchester City to Alexis Sanchez’s signature this month, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Jose Mourinho wants to hi-jack City’s move for Sanchez and United have reportedly even tabled a £25m bid for the Chile international, which is higher than City’s current offer of £20m.

City are not concerned by United’s interest and are convinced that Sanchez only has eyes for a move to reunite with Pep Guardiola, which could force United to move for other targets.

Mourinho is open to the idea of signing another striker in order to ease the burden on Romelu Lukaku for the remainder of the season and has identified Vardy and Hernandez as potential options this month.

West Ham are ready to part ways with Hernandez just six months after forking out £14m to sign the Mexico international and a return to Old Trafford could be on the cards.

Hernandez flourished as a super-sub during his first stint at United and Mourinho has even gone on record to state he would never let the forward leave the club if he was manager back in 2015.

However, any return to United hinges on whether the 29-year-old would settle for another bench role.

Vardy is another option under consideration for United but it remains to be seen whether he would be willing to leave Leicester after turning down Arsenal in 2016.

Lukaku has scored 15 goals in all competitions for United this season, but only five in his last 21 appearances.
