Oleksandr Zinchenko has penned a new three-year contract extension keeping him at Manchester City until the summer of 2024, the Premier League champions have announced.
Zinchenko’s previous deal still had two years left to run but City have rewarded the Ukraine international with a long-term deal as a reward for his fine form last season.
Pep Guardiola was willing to sell Zinchenko 12 months ago but the 22-year-old turned down the opportunity to join Wolves to win the City boss over.
Zinchenko did more than just that and finished last season as one of City’s best players in their domestic treble-winning campaign.
Zinchenko helped fill the void left by Benjamin Mendy at left-back and even kept the France international out of the team towards the end of the season.
City announced a new long-term deal for right-back Kyle Walker on Wednesday and have now followed that up by confirming a fresh contract for Zinchenko.
“It’s difficult to express how happy I am to sign this deal,” he told the club’s official website. “This club offers players everything they need to improve and develop, so being here for five more years is an honour.
“This season shows we are built for success. It’s been amazing to be involved in such a historic campaign and it’s one I’ll never forget.
“But I am now completely focused on the coming years and I know more good times are around the corner.”
