Crystal Palace to bank big transfer fee for forgotten striker

Crystal Palace striker Alexandar Sorloth is heading for German side RB Leipzig in a deal worth £22m, claims The Athletic.

The 24-year-old has been earmarked as Timo Werner's replacement for Leipzig following the German's big money departure to Chelsea earlier this summer.

Sorloth was a revelation on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor last season and put in a transfer request this summer.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho all but confirmed talks had taken place to sign Sorloth but the Premier League outfit have been priced out of a move for the striker.

Palace and Trabzonspor are set to equally split the £22m transfer fee received for the Norway international in a big boost for both clubs.

Sorloth was never going to return to Palace after his underwhelming maiden campaign for the club but a move to Leipzig caps a stunning turnaround for the forward.

Sorloth will now go from the fringes of the Palace first-team to Champions League football after finishing last season as the top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig (24 goals).
