Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has launched a bid to loan Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn, reports the Telegraph.
Villa are looking to bolster the squad after a transfer embargo was lifted amid a cash crisis that had denied Bruce the chance to make summer signings.
However, new Villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have provided the EFL with assurances over funding and the Midlands side are now free to make new additions.
The Championship side have since made contact with Liverpool over Woodburn, with Villa now allowed to discuss a season-long loan move for the 18-year-old.
The teenager was expected to be part of Liverpool’s training squad in France, but Woodburn has been withdrawn from the Reds’ travelling party to complete his switch to Villa Park.
Sheffield United and Wigan have also made an approach for Woodburn, who head coach Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of, but Villa, who fell to a playoff final defeat to Fulham back in May, are favourites to secure his services.
