French defender makes Malaga switch

Nice defender Paul Baysse has moved to Malaga on a three-year deal, reports French publication L’Equipe.

The 29-year-old made 20 league starts for the Ligue 1 side last season, yet Nice were willing to allow to allow the Frenchman to depart with Malaga taking him to Spain.

Baysse was out of contract with Nice and moves to Spain on a free transfer, bringing to an end his two-year stay with the French side.

The centre-back becomes the Spanish outfit’s second signing of the summer following the free capture of Adrian Gonzalez from La Liga counterparts Eibar.

29-year-old Gonzalez made 19 starts for the La Liga team last season, netting seven goals and registering a further assist for Eibar.

Malaga used no fewer than nine players at centre-back in Spain’s top tier last term, so competition for a starting spot will be fierce for Baysse, who has the option to extend his stay at the club for a further year.
