Clark signs new Villa deal

 

Ciaran Clark has committed his long-term future to Aston Villa after putting pen to paper on a new five-year deal with the his boyhood team, the club has announced.

 

Clark, 25, has developed into a key player of the Villa first-team since breaking through the youth ranks in 2009 and his previous deal was set to expire next summer.

 

Tim Sherwood’s side rejected a £2m bid from Midland rivals West Bromwich Albion last month and Clark says he is “thrilled” to continue his career with Villa.

“I am absolutely thrilled to sign a new contract. I’ve been at Aston Villa since I was a kid and I want to continue to play for this fantastic football club.” Clark said on Villa’s official website.

 

“Everyone is looking forward to the new season and I’m delighted to be going into the opening game on Saturday knowing my long-term future has been sorted.

 

The Irish defender finished last season as Villa’s highest WhoScored rated player in the Premier League (7.12).
