Lyon have announced they have signed Chelsea striker Bertrand Traore on a five-year deal until June 2022.
Traore spent the season on loan at Ajax last season but does not feature in Antonio Conte’s long-term plans at Chelsea as the Italian looks to bolster his offensive options at Stamford Bridge this summer.
The 21-year-old made 16 appearances for Chelsea during his three years at the club and the Premier League champions have now sold the Burkina Faso international for £8.8m.
“I’m happy to be here, to be at Lyon,” Traore told the club’s official website. “Lyon has always been an impressive cub, with great players and a great history, and it’s an honour for me to play here.”
Lyon have been looking to sign a new striker since the end of last season with Alexandre Lacazette expected to leave the club, and Traore’s arrival would seemingly put an end to their pursuit of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.
Traore scored nine goals in 24 league appearances for Ajax last season but reserved his best performances for the Europa League, where he was arguably the club’s best player during their defeat to Manchester United in the final.
In 13 appearances in UEFA’s second competitions, Traore played a direct hand in eight goals (four goals, four assists) and finished as the club’s second highest rated player (7.56).
