Top Premier League referee makes Saudi Arabia u-turn

Mark Clattenburg has reversed his decision to quit the Premier League for a role with the Saudi Arabian Football Association and will continue to officiate in England until the end of the season, reports The Sun.

It was announced last week that Clattenburg, regarded as one of the best referees in Europe, had quit his role as a Premier League referee to take up a position with the Saudi Arabian FA with immediate effect.

However, the 41-year-old has since held positive talks with chief referee Mike Reilly and agreed to make a sensational u-turn and put his move to Saudi Arabia on hold until the end of the season.

Clattenburg will not referee at least four more top-flight fixtures before making the switch to his £500,000-a-year tax free role in Saudi Arabia. This is particularly bad news for Crystal Palace, who have never won a match with Clattenburg in charge (11 matches).
