Brazilian Sevilla defender crops up on Liverpool's radar

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has turned his attention to Sevilla's Diego Carlos as he looks to bring in a new defender in the summer, reports Marca.

Klopp has four centre-backs on the books at the moment, but is willing to allow Dejan Lovren to leave when the transfer window opens, with a host of teams eager to sign the Croat despite his sub-par performances.

And with Joel Matip's injury issues cropping up, Klopp is aware he needs to bring in an experienced head to ensure Liverpool remain competitive across the board.

Carlos has made 25 league starts for Sevilla this season, with the LaLiga side boasting the fifth best defensive record in Spain's top tier this term.

However, Liverpool wouldn't have a straight shot at the Brazilian, who has supposedly attracted interest from LaLiga powerhouses Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The 27-year-old only joined Sevilla from Nantes last summer, but has previously made it clear that the Spanish side as a stepping stone towards a move to a bigger side.

"It was clear to me that coming to Sevilla was a huge step in my career as it's a big club, and if one day I leave, it will only be for one of the top teams in the world," Carlos is previously quoted as saying.
