Liverpool have had a club record €50m (£42m) bid for Marco Asensio rejected by Real Madrid, according to radio programme El Partidazo de Cope, via AS.
Asensio has struggled for regular game time this season but has shown his immense potential when called upon by Zinedine Zidane, particularly when coming from the bench in both legs of their Champions League quarter-final clash with Bayern Munich.
The 21-year-old excelled on loan at Espanyol last season and Liverpool have tried their luck with one of the most exciting young talents in Europe, but Madrid have understandably turned down Liverpool’s huge bid.
Zidane is reportedly willing to sell James Rodriguez in the summer in order to free up more game time for Asensio, showing how highly the Spain Under-21 international is rated at the club.
Asensio has made 17 appearances in La Liga this season but only eight of those have been as a starter. However, his rating from starts in all competitions is 7.41, having scored five goals and registered two assists in the league and in European competition.
