Outstanding Newcastle defender linked with Arsenal and Tottenham

Newcastle centre-back Fabian Schar has been linked with a move to Arsenal and Tottenham, reports the Sunday Mirror.

The Swiss defender has been central in Newcastle’s move away from the relegation zone with the Magpies now six points clear of the bottom three following their 3-2 win over Everton on Saturday.

Schar has made 16 Premier League starts following his £3m arrival from Deportivo and is looking ever increasingly like one of the bargain buys of the season.

Newcastle stand to earn a hefty profit should they elect to sell Schar, whose been in the starting XI in eight of their nine top-flight wins this term.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham are set to make moves for a new centre-back in the summer and are keeping tabs on the 27-year-old.

Schar was awarded the February goal of the month award for his stunning strike against Burnley and the hit propelled him further into the spotlight.

His good form for Rafa Benitez’s side has seen him earn a WhoScored rating of 7.31, that better than any other Newcastle player in the Premier League this season.
