Schalke teammate Naldo has called on Leroy Sane to reject Manchester City’s advances and continue his development at the Veltins-Arena.
Sane, 20, has been hailed as the next superstar coming out of Germany and has been closely watched by City even prior to Pep Guardiola’s arrival this summer.
However, Guardiola has given the green light to director of football Txiki Begiristain to continue the club’s pursuit of the Schalke winger, although that has been met by resistance from experienced defender Naldo.
“He needs trust for his development,” Naldo told Bild, via Manchester Evening News. “He gets that at Schalke, that’s why it’s important that he stays.”
“He should follow Mesut Ozil’s example, with whom I played at Bremen. He had top offers from abroad in 2009, but stayed another year to ripen because he knew he’d play at Bremen. The right move.
“He was all geared up for Real in 2010, and today is one of the best midfielders in Europe.”
Sane played a direct hand in 14 goals in 33 appearances for Schalke last season and completed more dribbles than any other teammate (91).
