Butland set for England starting role

Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland will be given the chance to stake a claim as England’s No.1 man between the sticks against Germany against on Friday, claims The Daily Mirror.

England supporters have been calling for Butland to be instated as first choice goalkeeper since recovering from a serious foot injury that kept him sidelined for more than a year.

Joe Hart has held down the No.1 jersey for the last six days but his stock has plummeted since Euro 2016 and now he faces a real challenge to hold on to his starting spot ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

The 30-year-old has failed to impress on loan at West Ham this season and will now be benched against Germany, while it remains to be seen who will start in goal against Brazil next week.

However, neither goalkeeper are at their best ahead of England’s glamour friendlies. While Hart has conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season (23), only Simon Mignolet (53.8%) has a worse save success rate than Butland (56.3%).
