Birmingham sack Harry Redknapp

Birmingham announced on Saturday their decision to sack Harry Redknapp as manager following the club’s poor start to the season.

The Blues have now lost five Championship games in a row after suffering a 3-1 defeat at home to Preston on Saturday and currently sit second from bottom in the table.

Redknapp signed a 12-month deal with Birmingham at the start of the summer after steering the club clear of relegation in the remaining three games of last season.

Birmingham were one of the division’s biggest spenders over the summer after bringing in 12 new players, but they have endured a disastrous start to the campaign and are now looking for a new manager.

“Unfortunately due to the poor start to the campaign which sees the club second from bottom of the Championship, we are left with no choice but to terminate the contract of the manager with immediate effect,” a statement read on Birmingham’s official website.

“We thank him for all his efforts and wish him good luck for the future. There will be no further comment at this time.”
