Chelsea set to miss out on top target Higuain

Chelsea are in serious danger of missing out on Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain with AC Milan making serious progress on a deal, claims the London Evening Standard.

New Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri wants to reunite with Gonzalo Higuain but the Argentina international’s preference is to stay in Italy.

Higuain is free to leave Juventus this summer following Cristiano Ronaldo’s blockbuster arrival from Real Madrid and is edging closer to a sensational move to Milan.

Juventus are currently locked in talks with their Serie A rivals about the departure of Higuain and Mattia Caldara, while also brokering Leonardo Bonucci’s return.

Milan are understood to be finalising a season-long loan deal for Higuain, which will include an option to make his switch permanent in a deal that will be worth as much as £48m.

Chelsea are also keen on Caldara but the Italy international is a key part of discussions to re-sign Bonucci from Milan after just 12 months away from the Serie A champions.

Sarri’s side have only made two signings this summer and now look destined to miss out on two top transfer targets, with the August 9 deadline fast approaching.

In the last three Serie A campaigns, Higuain has scored at least seven more goals than any other player (76).
