Borussia Dortmund eye up Arsenal star

Borussia Dortmund are considering a big money move for Arsenal's creative star Mesut Ozil following the sale of Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona, reports the Sun.

The Frenchman completed his move to Barcelona on Friday, with Dortmund collecting £96m for the youngster having paid Rennes a rumoured £13.5m for his signature just 12 months ago.

Dortmund are now aiming to reinvest the money in Ozil, who has just a year left to run on his current deal at Arsenal.

The Germany international has hinted that he would pen a contract at the Emirates Stadium, but is yet to extend his stay at the club.

Ozil’s displays for Arsenal have come under criticism in recent weeks for a number of underwhelming displays and his performance in the 4-0 loss at Liverpool is unlikely to have sat well with the Gunners fanbase.

Arsenal are determined to keep the midfielder at the club, however, and with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to leave and Alexis Sanchez’s future still undecided, Ozil may be on his way back to Germany before the close of the transfer window.

Despite failing to contribute to a Premier League goal this season, only Henrikh Mkhitaryan (13) has made more key passes than Ozil (12).
