Tottenham defender Trippier set for medical with European giant
Kieran Trippier is due to undergo his Atletico Madrid medical ahead of a £25m move from Tottenham, claims Football London.
Tottenham put up the England international for sale at the end of last season after a testing 12 months for club and country.
Trippier was one of England’s best players at the 2018 World Cup but failed to rediscover the same form last season.
The 28-year-old played with an injury all the way through last season and he even lost his place in the England squad at the end of the campaign.
Juventus and Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for the Tottenham right-back but Atletico have won the race for his signature.
Diego Simeone’s side have already spent nearly £200m on new players this summer but are not done yet.
Juanfran’s departure at the start of the summer has accelerated the need for a new right-back and Trippier is due to be joined at the club by Espanyol centre-back Mario Hermoso, who will fill the void left by Diego Godin.
Atletico have even been linked with a move for Tottenham creative midfielder Christian Eriksen as a possible alternative to Real Madrid outcast James Rodriguez.
Since August 2017, no defender has completed more crosses (excluding corners) than Trippier in the Premier League (53).
