Watford have announced the arrival of Danny Welbeck on a free transfer following his release from Arsenal.
Arsenal opted against renewing Welbeck’s contract at the end of last season and the former England international has now penned a three-year deal with Watford.
Welbeck’s wage demands looked to be a stumbling block for a number of Premier League clubs interested in the 28-year-old but Watford have struck a deal with the versatile forward.
Welbeck has not played competitively since breaking his ankle during Arsenal’s Europa League encounter with Sporting in November.
It remains to be seen what impact Welbeck’s arrival will have on Watford’s pursuit of Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr.
Javi Gracia’s side have been heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old all summer and are prepared to break their club-transfer record to land him.
Welbeck’s has never hit double figures for goals in a single Premier League campaign during his career and his record in the competition stands at just 41 goals in 203 appearances.
