Manchester United midfielder agrees MLS switch

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has agreed a move to MLS side Chicago Fire, according to reports in America.

The former Germany international had been widely expected to leave the club following Jose Mourinho’s appointment at Old Trafford last summer.

The 32-year-old is yet to register a Premier League minute this season and has made just one start for United in all competitions, that coming a 4-0 FA Cup win over Wigan.

And now, according to the Chicago Tribune, a move to MLS has been agreed, which will see the player earn $4.5m in 2017 as the Fire’s designated player.

“Throughout my career, I’ve always sought opportunities where I hoped to make a positive impact and to help make something great,” Schweinsteiger said.

“My move to Chicago Fire is no different. Through my conversations with Nelson and Pauno, I'm convinced by the club’s vision and philosophy and I want to help them with this project.”
