Donnarumma finally signs new AC Milan deal

AC Milan have announced Gianluigi Donnarumma has put questions about his immediate future to bed by agreeing terms to a new four-year deal that runs until June 2021.

Donnarumma, 18, had entered the final 12 months of his previous deal and would have been able to leave his boyhood club for nothing at the end of next season, with the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United all interested.

The Italy international has emerged as one of the promising young players on the planet since making his history-making debut for the senior side in October 2015, but Milan have endured a difficult time getting the teenager to sign a new deal.

Milan announced at the end of last month than Donnarumma had turned down the club’s offer of a new contract and would not be renewing with the club, but they have finally managed to convince the youngster to agree new terms after succumbing to his contract demands.

There will reportedly be various release clauses included in his new long-term deal, which will be set dependent on whether Milan qualify for the Champions League or not. While Donnarumma is a devoted Milan fan, he does not want to be tied to the club given their recent struggles and the release clauses will enable rival clubs to prize him away from San Siro in the future.

Donnarumma finished the 2016/17 campaign as the highest rated goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues (7.05 rating).
