Chelsea announce agreement for Timo Werner

Chelsea have reached an agreement with German side RB Leipzig for the transfer of sought-after striker RB Leipzig, the Premier League outfit have confirmed.

Werner has agreed personal terms on a five-year deal with Chelsea running until the summer of 2025 and will officially complete his move next month.

The Germany international has opted against playing for RB Leipzig when the Champions League resumes in August in order to accelerate his move to Chelsea.

Chelsea have fended off interest from Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester United in order to land Werner in a huge statement of intent from Frank Lampard's side.

Liverpool was Werner's preferred destination but Jurgen Klopp's side shelved their interest this summer as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

With Werner unwilling to wait another 12 months before moving to Anfield, Chelsea have swooped in and agreed a deal in the region of £53m with Leipzig.

Only Bayern's Robert Lewandowski has played a direct hand in as many goals as Werner in the Bundesliga this season (34).
