Atletico Madrid boss desperate to keep hold of Paris Saint-Germain target

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has stated he does not want star left-back Filipe Luis to leave and join Paris Saint-Germain this month.

Luis is regarded as one of the best full-backs in Europe and has emerged as a transfer target for PSG in the last few weeks of the summer transfer window.

Atletico have enjoyed a stunning season off the pitch and have arguably constructed their best ever squad, giving them a huge chance of success on all fronts this season.

The transfer window for clubs in Spain and France does not close until the end August and Simeone is desperate to hold onto Luis.

“All I can say about Filipe Luis is that the player knows how much we love him and how important he is for us,” ESPN quote Simeone as saying.

“Tomorrow he will play and I’m only thinking about tomorrow’s game and how important it is. I always want the best for the players who have given us so much and obviously I don’t want Filipe to leave.”

Luis was disgruntled not to start Atletico’s Super Cup win over Real Madrid in midweek and reportedly even went to the extreme of requesting the club accept any offer from PSG.

Of players that have made at least 20 appearances in the last three La Liga campaigns, only Lionel Messi, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Toni Kroos have garnered a higher WhoScored rating than Luis (7.51).
