New Swansea manager Paul Clement is hopeful of using his connection with Bayern Munich to sign defender Holger Badstuber, reports Wales Online.
Clement left his position as Bayern assistant manager to become Swansea’s new manager at the start of January and is already plotting potential transfer targets as he looks to steer the Welsh outfit clear of relegation.
Swansea are in need or urgent recruitment and Clement has lined up an audacious move for Germany international Badstuber, although he faces stiff competition from Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola has been earmarked with a raid of his former club as he looks to solve City’s defensive woes and a move for reserve defender Badstuber has been mooted although the Spaniard rejected those rumours when asked last week.
The 27-year-old’s career at Bayern has been blighted by a series of long-term injuries that have limited his involvement to few extended spells in the team. In fact, the central defender has only featured in 28 minutes of league action this season and hasn’t started in more than 10 games in either of the last two campaigns.
