Tottenham sign Lo Celso from Real Betis

Tottenham have announced the arrival of Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have been pursuing Lo Celso's signature all summer and finally made a breakthrough in talks on the penultimate day of the transfer window for English clubs.

Tottenham have agreed a £14.7m loan fee with Betis and the Premier League outfit will have to make Lo Celso's switch permanent for a further £55m if they qualify for the Champions League.

Pochettino's side will not have an obligation to sign Lo Celso permanently if they fail to secure Champions League football for the 2020/21 campaign.

The Premier League outfit have structured a deal in this way in order to skirt around Financial Fair Play (FFP) having already broken their club-transfer record to land Tanguy Ndombele.

The 23-year-old played a direct hand in 13 goals in 32 league appearances for Betis last season (nine goals, four assists) and won the WhoScored Man of the Match award four times.

Furthermore, of players that made at least five Europa League appearances last term, Lo Celso was the highest WhoScored rated player in the competition (7.80).
